Title: Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School Location: Sudbury, Massachusetts Type: 370K sq. ft. Educational facility ECC: $70 Million Client: The Office of Michael Rosenfeld Description: SAR provided mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, fire alarm, security, public address, telephone system and structured cabling (LAN) engineering services. The school was designed and constructed on schedule and under budget. It is considered to be one of the most energy efficient, high performance buildings in North America. The building is designed to incorporate geothermal energy in the future.
Title: Sturgis Charter School Location: Hyannis, Massachusetts Type: Educational ECC: $8 Million Client: Studio G Architects Description: SAR Engineering provide mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection engineering services for a new 45,000 square foot high school building. This project was a hybrid modular construction where over 75% of the MEP/FP systems where installed on site.

Title: Thomas Crane Library Location: Quincy, Massachusetts Type: Educational ECC: $17.5 Million Client: Childs Bertman Tseckares, Inc. Description: SAR Engineering, Inc. provided complete Mechanical and Electrical engineering, design, and construction administration for the renovation of this historic library and an addition.The library (a Best Accessible Design Award winner) contains an extensive computer network, a cable television studio, a temperature controlled archival storage area and a number of areas requiring special attention.
Court House Renovation
Title: John D. Adams Courthouse Location: Pemberton Square, Boston, MA Type: Historic Courthouse Renovation ECC: $140 Million Client: CBT/Childs Bertman Tseckares, Inc. Description: Historic renovation of a now 340,000 square foot courthouse which houses the SJC, Appeals Court and the Social Law Library. SAR provided HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire suppression, fire alarm and structured cabling (voice/data) engineering services.
Title: Worcester Trial Court Location: Worcester, MA Type: New Court House ECC: $180 Million Client: Shepley Bulfinch, Richardson & Abbott Description: The project, located in downtown Worcester where the site encompasses an entire city block with a footprint of roughly 90,000 square feet and 410,000 gross square feet of floor area on six levels. The Commonwealth created this Megaplex to house Juvenile, Housing, Probate, Family, District and Superior Courts along with Grand Jury and the District Attorney's Offices. This facility also contains a series of 24 Detainee cells capable of housing 109 occupants and a secure interior parking garage for use by Judges.
Title: Boston City Hall Location: Boston, MA Type: Government ECC: $7.7 Million Client: Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Public Facilities Department Description: SAR provided Prime Consultant Services for this unique half million plus square foot landmark that is comprised of a 9-story, 173-foot concrete high rise representing an unprecedented sprinkle retrofit design. The interior is a completely exposed monolithic concrete structure with a multiple level vaulted center atrium. A 10,000 S.F. garage is located under a portion of the existing structure with a larger 42,000 S.F. garage located under the plaza. Existing stand-pipes are embedded within the building structure. Large structurally framed skylights exist at multiple levels throughout the building. The fire suppression design for this building required the development of over 100 contract
Title: Candle Corporation Location: Batavia, IL Type: Industrial ECC: $120 Million Client: Candle Corporation of America Description: MEP engineering and design for a new 120,000 sq. ft. candle manufacturing facility, including chilled water, hot water and steam process piping and paraffin storage and handling systems. The energy plant utilizes thermal storage to reduce the size of chilled water refrigeration machines and hot water boilers. Carbon filtration is utilized to eliminate odor from the fragrances used in the different candles.
Central Artery/Tunnel Project
Title: Vent Building No. 7 - CA/T Location: Boston, Massachusetts Type: Industrial ECC: $206 Million Client: Massachusetts Highway Department (MHD) Description: Mechanical and Electrical engineering, design and Construction Administration support for the Vent Building, MPA Substation, Storm Water Pump Station and Tunnels. Engineering and design of all systems included lighting, power and signal systems, lightning protection, HVAC, fire protection and plumbing for the Vent Building, Substation and Pump Station. Tunnel work included dry standpipe systems, embedded grounding systems and all embedded conduit and raceway systems.
Title: Deer Island Pilot Plant and Pump Station Location: Boston, Massachusetts Type: Industrial ECC: $32 Million Client: Tsoi/Kobus and Associates Description: Testing model plant for the island's wastewater processing system. Complete electrical engineering and design including incoming service entrance substation and secondary power distribution, circuitry of all processing equipment including variable frequency drives, with Construction Administration.
Title: New York Organic Fertilizer Location: Bronx, New York Type: Industrial ECC: $22 Million Client: New York Organic Fertilizer Company Description: Electrical engineering and design including incoming primary service, service entrance substation and secondary power distribution. Engineering and design of all mechanical systems including fire protection, plumbing and HVAC for the plant as well as support and Construction Administration.
Title: Harrington Elementary School Location: Lexington, Massachusetts Type: Educational ECC: $14 Million Client: TLCR Associates Description: 5 standing column wells are used for the Geothermal Heat Pump HVAC System. The school has been in operation for more than a year. Because of the energy efficient and environmentally friendly system, the local utility company provided a rebate of 254k as an incremental cost.

Title: Adams Visitor Center Location: Adams, Massachusetts Type: Visitor Center ECC: $6 Million Client: SEA Consultants Description: The standing column Geothermal Heat Pump HVAC System has been in operation since 2003. Because of the energy efficient, environmentally friendly and innovative design approach, SAR received a Certificate of Merit Award from ACEC Massachusetts Engineering Excellence Competition.
Title: George Robert White Environmental Conservation Center at Mass Audubon’s Boston Nature Center Location: Mattapan, Massachusetts Type: Commercial ECC: $2 Million Client: ICON Architecture and Steven Winters & Associates Description: This building utilizes renewable energy technologies such as Geothermal Heat Pumps, photovoltaic shingles, and a solar hot water system to maximize energy efficiency. Project included in American Institute of Architects and Mayor Menino's Selections for “Boston’s Greenest”
Title: Nieman House, Renovation Location: Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts Type: Commercial ECC: $1.0 Million Client: Burt Hill Kosar Rittleman Associates Description: The Geothermal Heat Pump HVAC System has been in operation for over two years. The HVAC system includes two standing column geothermal wells, is energy efficient, environmentally friendly and offers flexibility of controls.

MBTA/Amtrak Train Station & Parking Facility
Title: Route 128 Intermodal Location: Dedham/Westwood, Massachusetts Type: Transportation Infrastructure ECC: $10 Million Client: Sasaki Associates and Frederick R. Harris, Inc. Description: SAR Engineering, Inc. provided preliminary engineering, final HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Suppression, Electrical, Communications, Fire Alarm and Security Systems design and construction administration for this intermodal subway station off Route 128. A dry type sprinkler system was provided throughout the parking garage.
